Francesc Boronat, at 30 years old, cultivates his vines in his native village of Nulles, with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean, southwest of Barcelona, in the Tarragona region.
He is the founder of Tanca Els Ulls estate, which translates to «close your eyes» in Catalan.
As a young and instinctive winemaker, he crafts lively, fresh, complex, and precise wines. Inspired by the history and vision of his grandfather, who was also a winemaker, Francesc decides to revive the most beautiful vines of Macabeu and the old cellar located beneath his family home. He acquires a magnificent plot from the Cartoixa de Marina de Bellavista, a neighboring village, and also works on a plot of young Malvasia vines planted by his father following a trip to Sicily. The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soils, surrounded by olive trees and the Mediterranean scrub, constantly caressed by the sea breeze.
The Cartoixa de Marina vineyard is located on a plot of clay-limestone soils rich in iron and stones, known as the «Coster de Bellavista.» The Cartoixa, an orange wine macerated for 5 days, displays a deeper orange color, almost pinkish, with aromas of crunchy red berries, Mediterranean scrub, and pink peppercorns.
