Šárka Otevřel Camrdová grew up in Prague, spent years editing food and culture at Elle and Herbarium, and eventually turned her attention to the preservation traditions that Czech kitchens have quietly kept alive for generations. In one of Europe's most secular countries, the pickle became a kind of faith – a ritual act of putting up summer for winter, of making the seasons last.
God is a Pickle gathers more than a hundred recipes for ferments, pickles, and preserves alongside the seasonal dishes that use them, all photographed by Marek Bartoš. It is as much a portrait of Czech food culture as it is a working kitchen book – one that moves between story and recipe with the ease of a conversation at a well-stocked table.
